Harman Kardon, now linked to Korean titan, Samsung has thrown its decades-long audiophile expertise into the crowded soundbar ring, and we think, it comes up trumps.

The clue to the excellent sound residing aboard the latest Citation Multibeam 700 is the appellation “Citation”. For those of us with long memories, Citation is the designation Harman Kardon used for very, very special sounding models. We know from personal experience having owned a Citation II valve amplifier back in the day.

The Citation multibeam 700 shares the sonic credentials with other speaker models in Harman's Citation range. So please note, it's tailormade with these speakers and their Harman Kardon ecosystem in mind.

Not that it can't be used as a standalone soundbar. It can and in-situ with a quality large screen TV, it will provide its owner with more sound than they really need thanks to an array of seven speakers. Some of these speakers are at each end of this soundbar while others fire directly at the listening position.

The large amount of immersive sound quality unleashed by the Multibeam 700 is generated by two 25mm tweeters and no less than five 5cm woofers. This complement of drivers is fed by amplifiers said to produce a power output of 210 watts.

Whilst the new Citation Multibeam 700 can be used as a soundbar to add a decent level of quality sound to any TV and bypassing the set's inbuilt audio system, Harman rightly sees its full potential is realised when it's added to other Citation series speakers.

Either way, the Multibeam 700 has Bluetooth, Chromecast and Apple AirPlay built-in. As for connectivity, the 700 offers one HDMI ARC, one Aux and one Optical input. Wi-Fi signals are handled by built-in 5G and 2.4G transmitters.

Setting up the Multibeam 700 is a doddle. It's quick, simple and very easy via the unit's touch screen that allows users to sort and select inputs and the Auto Setup feature. This latter feature does all the setting up for the user by sending out a series of sound signals that allow the best performance for a given environment.

The supplied remote duplicates the features that can be accessed via the unit's touchscreen. There's also a built-in microphone and the Google Assistant app to allow you to exploit all of the Multibeam 700's excellent sound, hands-free.

The Multibeam 700 also looks stylish finished in wool Fabric designed by Kvadrat, who is a leading European brand specialising in dirt-repellent and flame retarding acoustic textiles.
