Chord Electronics’ 2yu Ready 2go

Chord Electronics' 2yu digital interface is now available and, with the 2go, creates a networked audio bridge.

The Chord Electronics 2yu digital interface was announced back in February 2020 and has been designed for the company's 2go streamer/server. Together, they create a network bridge to be used with DACs, DAC-equipped A/V devices and, of course, Chord Electronics' Hugo M Scaler.

The 2yu/ 2go network bridge offers high-resolution streaming from wired Ethernet and wireless sources (using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or A2DP Bluetooth), including such popular streaming services as Qobuz, Tidal and Internet radio; the combination is also Roon Ready.

Additionally, it can utilise 2go's 2x 2 TB-rated SD card slots to become an audiophile-grade music server, says Chord Electronics.

2yu sports several connectivity options, including optical, S/PDIF coaxial and BNC (50 and 75 ohms, respectively) digital outputs, plus a “highly flexible” USB-A output.

The 2go/2yu also benefits from gapless audio, DoP/Bit Perfect support and AirPlay support and is fully DLNA-compliant (server/renderer). 2yu boasts 2,000 MIPS (million instructions per second) of processing power, automatic downsampling (for use with sample rate-limited legacy DACs), plus a low-jitter audio phase lock loop.

The 2go/ 2yu pairing can be controlled by any of the popular UPnP apps available for Android and iOS devices. Chord Electronic's own Gofigure adds additional set-up convenience, management features and a library playback option. 2yu's handmade aircraft-grade aluminium casing also features four polychromatic spherical controls for output selection, power, mute and dim functions.

Of course, the 2go/2yu combo will receive over-the-air firmware updates when they occur and ships with Chord Electronics' latest 2go update, which introduces new radio-listening and SD card album playback features, plus improved stability. The new firmware follows the release of the latest version of Gofigure, Chord Electronics' set-up and configuration app companion.

Chord Electronics' 2yu is available now and priced at AUD $1,100 / NZD $1,195 RRP. To create the network bridge, you will also need the 2go (AUD $2,200 / NZD $2,195).

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
