Bowers & Wilkins Launches 600 Series Anniversary Edition

Bowers & Wilkins' iconic 600 Series celebrates 25 years as a fan-favourite with a new Anniversary Edition range.

The Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series Anniversary Edition comes to replace the 2018-launched iteration that brought the Continuum Cone to the series. It also marks 25 years and ushers in the seventh-generation of the company's most popular series with over a million sales under its belt, not to mention it being the longest-running series after the venerable 800 Series Diamond.

The new range promises the same winning blend of value and sound quality as its six forebears but features new and improved components. The 600 Series Anniversary Edition range features four models and brings in new oak and, in APAC markets, red cherry finishes in addition to the existing matte black and matte white finishes. You also get a new celebratory logo inscribed on the tweeter surround in either light or dark finishes, depending on the colour of the rest of the speaker.

The new range includes 'S2' specification Anniversary Edition versions of the 607 ($999 RRP) and 606 ($1,299 RRP) stand mounters and the 603 ($2,999 RRP) floor stander along with the dedicated HTM6 centre channel speaker ($899). Meanwhile, the ASW608, ASW610, and ASW610XP subwoofers plus the STAV24 S2 speaker stand continue unchanged. Naturally, Bowers & Wilkins has also updated its 600 Series home cinema package that bundles the 603 S2, 607 S2 and HTM6 S2 Anniversary Edition speakers with an ASW610 subwoofer for $5,996 RRP.

The new range boasts upgraded crossovers in every model along with new and vastly improved bypass capacitors which have been “specially treated” by Mundorf and were initially used for the recently launched 700 Series Signature range.

Additionally, the main high-frequency and mid-frequency capacitors have been upgraded with new and improved designs. The overall result, says Bowers & Wilkins, is greatly improved resolution and transparency across all of the 600 Series Anniversary Edition speakers.

Andy Kerr, Director of Product Marketing & Communications, told StereoNET:

The 600 Series Anniversary Edition is a classic example of Bowers & Wilkins thinking. By using our unique, in-house-developed components and technology from higher ranges, we can raise the performance of our entry-level product to new heights and for a very modest premium. The 600 Series has been setting the standard in its category for 25 years, and we're confident our new Anniversary Edition range will carry on that tradition in style.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
