AMC Networks Launches Shudder VOD Streaming Platform in Australia
AMC Networks' Shudder has announced that Shudder, its premium subscription streaming service for horror, thriller, and the supernatural is now available in Australia and New Zealand.
The streaming video-on-demand platform owned by AMC Networks was launched in 2015 in the US, followed by Canada, the UK and Ireland.
Priced at just $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually, Shudder also offers a seven-day free trial. Availability at launch includes support for Mac and PC, iOS and Android devices, Chromecast, Fire TV and Xbox One. Shudders says “it's expanding device compatibility to add more gaming consoles and smart TVs in the future.”
Craig Engler, Shudder's General Manager, told StereoNET:
We're thrilled to share our unrivaled collection of curated horror and supernatural movies and series with Australian and New Zealand audiences just in time for Halloween season, where we feature our biggest and best programming of the year. These new launches continue our growing international expansion and our commitment to offer premium genre entertainment to a global audience.
Shudder says it offers a wide selection of both TV series and movies along with exclusive to Shudder content, and indeed in our early exploration, there's certainlyno shortage of content.
For the videophile readers, sadly you'll be disappointed. Streaming quality is limited to just HD 720p quality, and older movies are limited to SD. There's also no support for 4K or Dolby Atmos. With no tiered pricing or plans though, we can only hope an HD plan emerges in the future for a few extra dollars.
