$1.2 Billion Dollar Speakers Land in Melbourne

The most expensive loudspeakers ever landed in Australia, with an estimated street value of $1.2b thanks to 1.596 tonnes of methylamphetamine (or 'ice' as it is commonly known) and 37kgs of heroin hidden inside, have been seized by Australian authorities. The haul has been reported by Police as the equivalent of 16 million drug deals.

Originating from Bangkok, the sea cargo consignment landed back in April 2019. Upon inspection by x-ray, officials detected small bags concealed within the PS Series branded PA style speaker cabinets. The speakers appear to be from the NEXO brand, however, it is suspected these are knockoffs of the Paris-based French brand.

It was the largest meth bust in Australian history according to Border Force officials. According to recent news reports, “two trusted customs brokers have been charged” and it is alleged “the pair was middle to high-up in the international operation”.
